The Principality of Andorra is a micro-state in the Pyrenees mountains chain, found on the border of it's (much larger) neighbours France & Spain. This trip will see us journey into the mountainous landscape of the 16th smallest country in the world. From our valley base we will select a route into a different part of this entirely mountainous state for 3 of our days before returning to our accommodation each night. Two days and one night will be spent making a trek to stay overnight in a Mountain ‘refugio’ before aiming to summit the highest peak in Andorra, ‘Pic de Coma Pedrosa’, then descending back to our valley base.
SUGGESTED ITINERARY:
Day 1: Arrive in Arinsal. Evening meeting for group introductions and to discuss the exciting week ahead.
Days 2 to 6: 5 days of walking in the beautiful Pyrenean mountainous principality. Conditions permitting we'll enjoy a 2 day round trip to reach Andorra's highest summit Pic de Coma Pedrosa (2,942m), including an over night stay in a mountain 'refugio'.
Day 7 : After a good nights sleep it's time to head home.
We highly recommend taking the opportunity of visiting the vibrant Catalan capital of Barcelona for a couple of days before returning to the UK. Or stay & explore more of the Pyrenees at your own leisure.
(Please note: adverse weather conditions, or unforeseen events, may require changes to proposed itinerary)
This trip would be ideal for anyone looking to enjoy mountain trekking overseas and would also be ideal as an introduction to using a mountain Refugi/o. There may be long days and steep ascents/descents during this trip so an appropriate level of physical fitness prior to the trip would be beneficial.
